Smiley for Wixom

Councilman Smiley – Committed to Serving Wixom

It has been a privilege to serve my community on the Wixom City Council this past 8 years. I have done so by listening and working with our community to maintain and improve our wonderful city. I have been guided by fiscally responsible principles that have led to an efficient, cost-effective city government.

As a result, Wixom enjoys an AA2 bond rating (the highest possible for a city of our size), a low operating millage rate, and a healthy 40% operating fund balance (rainy day fund) – good stuff!

I have successfully worked to lower local tax rates, for balanced budgets, and to be a consistent voice for wise spending of our tax dollars and living within our means. I feel strongly that supporting our police and firefighters is city council’s primary responsibility. A safe community is a strong community, and that helps attract development that is consistent with the character of Wixom.

As a two-term city councilman, I have the experience needed to keep Wixom thriving and within budget.

Highlights from my first two terms:

  • Voted for and passed bonding out long-term pension liabilities for city employees saving the city $2.5 million
  • Moved the Rails to Trails program to the point where it is now in complete!
  • Proposed and passed video recording of City Council Meetings

Goals:

  • Ongoing Enhancement and Development of Downtown
  • Focus on Capital Improvement Planning – improve city roads and infrastructure and finding solutions to our growing traffic problems
  • Complete the sidewalk network as soon as possible

Other Community Involvement:

  • Treasurer – Lakes Area Community Coalition – 2022-present
  • President – Walled Lake Central High School Football Boosters – 2021-present
  • Director – Walled Lake Central High School Football Salute to Service Game – 2017-present
  • Board of Directors – Commerce Chargers Youth Football – 2011-2019
  • Board of Directors – Wixom Community Foundation – 2019-present
  • Wixom Precinct Delegate – 2014-present

That is my commitment to Wixom and its residents – fiscally responsible, accountable, accessible, and transparent.
